Medical secretaries work full time in office settings and must deal with the varying personalities of patients, health care providers and health care practitioners. A medical secretary career can be a lateral move from a medical assistant position, according to Scott. But a medical secretary job can also serve as a springboard to a higher position. With proper training, it’s possible for a medical secretary to move on to a higher position as a licensed practical nurse or registered nurse.
