The investment seeks to achieve a total return that exceeds that of the fund's benchmark, the Barclays US Long Government/Credit Bond Index. The fund invests in a diversified portfolio of fixed income debt instruments of varying maturities. It normally invests at least 80% of its net assets, plus the amount of any borrowings for investment purposes, in U.S. dollar-denominated, investment-grade fixed income debt instruments. While the fund may invest in fixed income securities of any maturity or duration, it seeks to maintain an effective portfolio duration that is within +/- 1 year of the duration of the fund's benchmark.
