It emphasizes investment in those emerging countries whose economies are developing strongly and whose markets are becoming more sophisticated. The fund invests primarily in equity securities, including common and preferred stocks, convertible securities, rights and warrants to purchase common stock, and depositary receipts. It may invest up to 20% of its net assets in debt securities, including up to 5% of its total assets in non-investment grade debt securities ("junk bonds").
