The investment seeks to provide current income from an investment grade portfolio with due regard to preservation of capital and prudent investment risk. Normally, the fund invests at least 80% of its net assets (plus the amount of borrowings, if any, for investment purposes) in debt securities issued or guaranteed by the U.S. government, its agencies and instrumentalities, investment grade debt securities (including convertible debt) of corporate or other issuers and cash, cash equivalents and other short-term holdings. It may invest up to 20% of its net assets in debt securities rated below investment grade.
