Summary

The investment seeks substantial dividend income as well as long-term growth of capital. The fund normally invests at least 80% of its net assets (plus borrowings for investment purposes) in common stocks, with 65% in the common stocks of well-established companies paying above-average dividends. Investments in a company may also be made through a privately negotiated note or loan, including loan participations and assignments. The Portfolio may also invest in U.S. and foreign dollar-denominated money market securities and U.S. dollar and non-U.S. dollar currencies.
