The investment seeks total return, consisting of current income and capital appreciation. The fund invests primarily in debt securities in the following three segments of the debt securities market: (i) securities issued by the U.S. government and its agencies, including mortgage- and other asset-backed securities; (ii) securities issued by foreign governments, companies or other entities, including in emerging market countries and non-dollar denominated securities; and (iii) below investment grade corporate debt securities or unrated corporate debt securities determined to be of comparable quality, which are commonly referred to as "junk bonds."
