The investment seeks high total investment return through a combination of current income and capital appreciation. The fund normally invests at least 80% of its assets (plus the amount of borrowings, if any, for investment purposes) in fixed-income securities. It invests primarily in investment grade fixed-income securities, although it may invest up to 35% of its assets in lower-rated fixed-income securities ("junk bonds") and up to 20% of its assets in equities and preferred stocks. The fund may invest in fixed-income securities of any maturity. It may also invest up to 10% of its assets in bank loans and up to 20% of its assets in foreign securities.
