The investment seeks total return, consisting of current income exempt from federal income tax and of capital appreciation, consistent with moderate fluctuation of principal. The fund normally invests at least 80% of total net assets in bonds that pay interest exempt from federal income tax (including the federal AMT). It invests at least 65% of its total assets in tax-exempt bonds that are rated investment grade and may invest up to 35% of total assets in bonds that are rated below investment grade. The fund may invest up to 20% of total net assets in securities the interest on which is subject to federal income tax.
