The investment seeks to provide safety of principal and a moderate rate of return after taking account of federal taxes. The portfolio typically invests at least 80% of assets in municipal securities rated A or better by comparably rated municipal notes and by national rating agencies. It may also invest up to 20% of its net assets in fixed-income securities of U.S. issuers that are not municipal securities if, in the Manager's opinion, these securities will enhance the after-tax return for Portfolio investors.
