The investment seeks to provide a level of current income which exceeds the average yield on U.S. stocks; long-term capital appreciation is a secondary objective. The fund normally invests at least 80% of assets in income producing securities, and at least 50% in common stocks. It may invest in any stock or other equity security, including smaller companies with market capitalization of less than $500 million and companies in developing countries and also including preferred stock, publicly traded real estate investment trusts, other equity trusts and partnership interests.
