I joined a college on an over-60 program. Forget it! They don't want you there. Professors treat you like you did not exist. Students see you as if you were grandpa. Administrators know you are not paying for the services and make you feel it! Whenever they make up groups, you are not even part of them and even if you are, you don't have the same rights. Go online instead.

I have heard that people over 60 can get their college degree free in some states. How do I find out if this is available to me in Texas?

I signed up for the University of Phoenix at the age of 55. I obtained my Bachelor's Degree, then went on to the Masters. I am currently enrolled in the doctorate program at University of Phoenix. This was NOT free. I have no idea where free is in my state. The only free education I have found is always somewhere I am not. Scholarships and grants are usually for high school students. There used to be grants of people over 50, but they seemed to have fallen by the wayside.

I turn 60 years old in March 2011 and have applied to CSUMB for Fall 2011 in Monterey, CA.
I heard that you could get free tuition at California State Universities if you are over 60.
Also this is to earn a Bachelor's degree, not to audit.
Can you help me find out the truth.

Because my child has serious medical concerns, I never finish college and have worked mostly part time jobs. Now I find myself at 55 and I will soon have to support myself. I am finding no hope. I am not finding the help that articles like this are telling us about. Unless you are so poor you are nearly homeless NO ONE will help you. If anyone has REAL answers out there, I would love to hear them!
