5 Tips for Returning Holiday Gifts

I find it a bit suspect that I have had to track down my refunds after the holiday season. I made returns via reputable sources (UPS/FEDEX) to who I thought were reputable vendors (E-Toys, FAO Schwarz, & Leap Frog). All of my items were returned prior to the Christmas holiday. Some were even there as early as 12/16/09. Today, 1/8/10, I have yet to receive a refund from any of these online retailers. During my phone calls today I was told such tales as; it is in transit (not according to UPS), both packages must have been overlooked in our warehouse (since 12/16???), and one retailer simply hadn't a clue where my item was-but could see that I had shipped it back.

Then they each told me that I could expect a refund in the next 2-5 business days.

We will see.

Disgusting. I will categorically mark all three off of my list for next shopping season.

If you want to be successful (as far subjective opinions will allow) returning something edible because YOU think it tastes weird ,it's better to have consumed no more than a third .Remember , dept.stores fill these returns counter positions with ghetto gorillas - like the ones that trample you or cut in line when you've been waiting for the frozen doors to open at a midnight sale.So resist debasing yourself trying to exchange that box of candy or shortbreads that someone hastily picked for you , because the "trustees" behind that counter think everyone is as larcenous as they are.You must be firm, factual & civil when dealing with them .Have seen people lose it and then have a scene & I am referring to outwardly staid ,bookish persons turned down for these ape's amusement. If all is in order (condition, timeliness, receipt etc.) step aside & discretely insist on talking to someone in an executive position ,not supervisory .Good Luck.
