Traditional retirement is the norm and will continue to be the norm because "retirement" is big business. Not only that, traditional retirement appeals to human nature to want to kick back and do nothing after you have worked most of your adult life, and are tired and burned out.

A new minset and lifestyle is needed to co-exist with the traditional notion of retirement. Society needs to support, encourage and promote lifelong growth and productivity for those who want to stay healthy, enagaged and ageless.

At this time, only a few individuals with vision and determination to overcome decline oriented retirement will plan for their future before they retire. They are the ones who will "have a life" after the "retirement honeymoon" wears off.
