SH of MI corrections please Belize is not an island. Thats a downright lie there are no spikes at the top of those gates you saw. I can send you pictures. Fortunately the cruise ship terminal is an enclosed area. What you saw were honest Belizeans selling their products or inviting visitors to take the many tours that are offered. I believe this is done worldwide if you are able to travel to different destinations. These tours guides, venders are part of an association who represent themselves by wearing uniforms with logos and name tags. Check the crime rates where you are from and you will realize that Belize is no different from other parts of the world. BELIZE is the prized destination PRESENTLY. We boost the second largest barrier reef in the world, Mayan Sites not to mention awesome diving spots. I can go on and on. I challenge you to come spend two week vacation in Belize and experience the difference!

In this article it boasts that you can live comfortably on $300mo. for rent. Where might this be in Belize? On the coast?

And I have been to Belize on vacation, and it's every bit of beautiful! But what nobody talks about is the health care. I have heard that it barely exists there! Would someone give me the Facts about the health care in Belize?

Thank You!

Are the communities or small towns, or even Belize itself in need of teachers? I could work there and then retire!!!

I have been "watching " Belize on the internet for 10 years. Never have taken the time to get there. Now after having read this report , I am surely going before I retire anywhere else. Thank you for the information.

BOQUETE, PANAMA IS NOW BECOMING MUCH MORE REASONABLE. IT WAS OVERPRICED IN THE PAST BECAUSE OF THE HOUSE DEVELOPERS AND SOME REAL ESTATE PEOPLE TRYING TO GET THE PRICE HIGH AS POSSIBLE. LOOK AROUND AND LOOK FOR HOUSES "FOR SALE BY OWNER." ASK A LOCAL FOR A RECOMMENDATION OF A GOOD REALTOR.

THERE IS A RAINY SEASON AND A DRY SEASON. OF COURSE IT RAINS MORE IN THE RAINY SEASON BUT THERE IS NO FLOODS OR TONS OF MOSQUITOES. AVOID STANDING WATER IN YOUR YARD AND PUTTING SCREENS ON YOUR HOUSE WOULD REMOVE ANY POSSIBILITY OF INSECTS. IT IS SO COMFORTABLE THAT YOU DO NOT NEED AIR CONDITIONING. SECOND HOUSE I HAVE EVER OWNED THAT NEEDED NO HEAT OR AIR. ASK FOR HELP FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE ALREADY MADE "THE MOVE."

I've been to Belize 13 or 14 times and never seen anything close to what you describe. No starving people. No fences or barriers. I've been to the area where cruise ships dock numerous times and I've never felt threatened or uncomfortable in Belize City. I think your experience was bizarre because no one else attests similar facts.

I recommend Placencia, Caye Caulker, Punta Gorda, San Pedro and Corozal in that order.

People interested in retiring to Latin America should consider Panama. The beautiful country uses the U.S. dollar, residents speak English, it has excellent medical care and a very low crime rate. There are many new developments on the Pacific coast, but we have already settled on one. We recently purchased a home on Isla Palenque, a new island resort community in Panama's Gulf of Chiriqui and look forward to moving there in the future. There is a website for their resort at www.islapalenque.com
