How can you call yourself "Panama" Jim?? You are a selfish, self centered work of art. If you don't like it in Panama then leave! Get the hell out! How can you keep ranting about "these people"? Screw you Jim I was born in Panama and am going back in 5 days to stay after 34 years! How about you come back to the states and live with "these people" here? Put up with "these people" here in the states and their laziness, crime, and the "someone owes me something attitude"? Do us all a favor and leave Panama, it will truly make it an even better place to live once I get there.

There is a very likely possibility that my husband will be of the first to arrive to work on the pipeline currently in the works. My daughter and I would like to travel there to check it out before we make the move. 1 - Is it relatively safe for two women to travel there alone? 2 - What is the home rental situation like there....Is there affordable homes available for longterm rental? Any information you can give me would be helpful. We have never lived outside of the united states and are very nervous about the transition.

Best regards,

Having been born in Panama & living in the old Canal Zone until I was 15, then since have return on numerous occasion, I can tell you Panama is not cheap to live anymore. Foreigners & ExPat have driven the prices of most things up like what happened to Florida by the "northern invasion"!!

P.S. The Best Place to Retire---”

“1. Panama. Panama is the world's top retirement haven. Panama City no longer qualifies as cheap, but other spots in this country certainly do---“ Las Tablas & the Azuero peninsular is questionable, I know Coronado (beach area little over one hour drive west of Panama City), & Boquete (in the mountains near the Costa Rican boarder) & Altas de Maria & El Valle in the mountains near Coronado is NOT cheap for real estate?

I am interested in the country of Panama, I have vsited and was close to the military base and did not enjoy the neighborhood. What place would you suggest that would be

comfortable for an 80 year old in good health. I do have Insurance in USA, so would I change my Medicare etc.,

Thanks you,

Panama is tropical weather. Like any other tropical weather country you hope for the best and you prepare for the worst because that is exactly what you get in tropical weather countries. The most poisonous of all living creatures.

I have lived in the highlands of Panama ( where there is a large expat community) for the past 7 years. If people are thinking of living/retiring in other countries, I strongly urge you to GO to those places and rent for 6 mths ( at least!) before deciding. These places are NOT suburbs of the US. They have their own cultures and ways of doing things. That advice may sound blindingly obvious but many people arrive here and are shocked that the locals speak spanish...um,...hello? If you can adjust to things being very different, living OS can be incredibly rewarding.I remember moving to NEW YORK in my late 20's from Australia and it felt like I had landed on the moon.It was VERY different and took a few years to get used to all the NY weirdness.Of course, then i loved it and spent 20 years there before moving to Panama in 2004. As I say, if you like a challenge, come check out these amazing places.BUT if you want things to be the way they are at home, then STAY HOME.

buena suerte!
