The Real Best Places to Retire in 2012

I've thought about Dominican Republic and Costa Rica or Equador or Uraguy, Argentina but I live in Las Vegas, Nevada USA. I can't imagine it would be any cheaper anywhere else no matter the prices. I suppose I could get maid service cheaper but I seem to do ok. So like this article states, maybe you should stay right where you are. My house is paid for and if I'm lucky and win my fight against the government for my retirement I work over 20 years for in the military, I should be ok.

I don't normally inquire into blogs, but I have to mention that I rather enjoyed yours as it had been enlightening. I´ve bookmarked your blog and hope to explorer it more after I have a very little more time. Carry on the nice work.

VERY good article. Sold homes in Florida for 14 years. People move down, sell move back. Some loved it but over 1000 people a day move out of Florida. Find out all you can before moving. Multiple long distance moves can cost a fortune, disrupt your life according to the Florida Move Guide.

In my view Tom Sightings' advice has this one right on the money. I tried to convince my mom to stay in her home when she retired, but she decided to move back to the town where she grew up (Woodstock, Va.). It probably was the best decision for her, as the cost of living in the Washington, D.C., area was too high (high taxes and high cost of living are big factors for retirees) and her house and property were too big for her to take care of. But moving back home, which I note is listed last, can be problematic after you've lived most of your life somewhere else. You may not know anyone there anymore, and it can be harder for older people to make new friends (or even find new friends who are close to their age). Mom had an older sister in her hometown for awhile, but, since the sister was older, she only lived a few years.
