As a divorced mom, I can verify that divorce is a major cause of poverty and financial disaster for U.S. families. Marriage counseling is SOOOO much cheaper than a divorce, and in the long run better for everyone. Apart from the amazing amounts of money spend on lawyer fees, divorce causes one family to have to pay two mortgages, two electric bills, two water bills, etc.

Divorce isn't always avoidable -- in my case, it was a necessity for our very safety -- but I encourage my friends to avoid it whenever possible.
