Being tolerant is a good thing, SC. But this particularly Amtrak line is, at a minimum, 2 hours late each and every time we take it. Many times it is 4 or 5 hours late. In Europe, trains are extremely punctual. Can't we be at least as punctual as European trains?

The woman didn't lose it; it was stolen. It's ridiculous that they can't reprint the ticket from the computer records. I'm an American living in Tokyo, with its huge train system, and I've never had any problems with tickets even when I've made mistakes. If I mistakenly go through the wrong gate, they reimburse me, and as long as you purchase a pass card with your name on it, you can have it replaced if you lose it.

The ticket is the ticket. If you lose it, oh well! As for security, do you want TSA at Amtrak stations? Amtrak is great. We just all need to be a little more tolerant. If the train is late, well maybe next time it won't be. If we are checked for bombs, that's great. Let's all just be a little more tolerant of all security in all modes of transportation. Who wants to ride Greyhound? Okay, let's take the train!

In case you missed it, Amtrak actually recently announced that they will begin random security checks on bags and passengers -- so they do seem to be beefing up security, at least to a degree.

My kids and I take Amtrak each summer across three states to my folks' home. We have usually had good experiences with tickets, but this particular train line is shared by commercial train lines and so there are sometimes extraordinary delays -- once up to 9 hours, due to trains and weather! Additionally, there is virtually no security, which I find odd in this day of terrorism
