Starbucks just doesn't get it? The reason why they need to close stores, lay people off and appear to change their focus is because sales are down. Why are they down? THE PRICE. Not the taste. Every single finance advisor recommends that in order to keep your expenses in line is to get rid of the 'latte factor'. Stop spending $4-$5 for a pennies worth of coffee. Duh.

I can get a great cup of organic, trade-free coffee at McDonald's for $1.25. And if you are a senior citizen, the same cup costs just sixty five cents.

It's the economy, stupid (Starbucks)

Finally, I have tasted it... and here's my verdict: It does taste better than the previous types - it is less strong/harsh on the taste buds and stomach. I don't know if it's all THAT, but it's an improvement.

I have no problem with people posting positive comments, but damn that Virtual Tour post went a little too far into the slickly crafted to be believed.

I'm not generally a Starbucks coffee drinker, thinking their coffee is too strong & burnt tasting. and I'm not a coffee aficionado. This new Pike Place Roast is very palatable to me, and I'm glad to see it. It's much smoother than the other Starbucks flavors.

I visited their Web site, and was also able to view a really cool Virtual Tour of the Pike Place store itself -- I never knew how much history there was! I found the tour at:

This is just a publicity stunt for Starbucks; In fact, the "new" coffee tastes more like Folgers premium coffee than anything special. Of course, when you go into a Starbucks you will see the Baristas spinning around madly to brew fresh coffee every 30 minutes, but let's face it, this isn't magic, it's coffee, and no amount of hype should mislead people into thinking they have found the "Holy Grail" or anything.

Starbucks is fast-food. Let that sink into your head for a moment. Starbucks makes more money from Lattes and Frappucinnos than anything else, and perhaps they want to move away from that but they've already have sandwiches, pastries (which can all be heated in their oven), blended drinks, and the list goes on and on. Sorry, but Starbucks never revolutionized coffee, nor will they ever because the fact is that they are a large chain fast-food restaurant with an amazing knack for publicity and bringing a pseudo-european coffee culture to America.

You want a real cup of espresso, get a manual espresso machine; You want a real cup of coffee, get it french pressed.
