Before I interviewed You're So Money author Farnoosh Torabi, I asked her to keep a spending diary for a few days, so we could compare her philosophy with her own habits. Torabi's diary:

Monday

  • Salad for lunch: $5.50
  • Bottled water: $1.25
  • Pair of shoes for work from DSW (marked down from $125.00): $80.00
  • Four T-shirts from Forever 21: $20.20
  • Cab ride from Union Square to Upper West Side: $15.00
  • 10-pack of blank DVDs, half gallon of milk, and hairbrush at Duane Reade: $23.00

Tuesday

  • Egg-white omelet for breakfast: $3.50
  • Tofu and broccoli and drink for lunch: $5.65
  • Almonds for a snack: $3.00
  • ATM surcharge: $2.00

Wednesday

  • Dry-cleaned a jacket and jeans and got two skirts hemmed: $64.00
  • Tuna sandwich for lunch: $5.25
  • Soda: $0.50
  • Dinner at Burritoville: $9.50
  • Skirt from Club Monaco: $124.21
  • Cupcake from Magnolia Bakery: $2.25

Thursday

  • Breakfast from Equinox: $4.00
  • Salad for lunch from deli: $5.75

Friday

  • Laundry from dry cleaner: $16.00
  • Lilies from flower shop: $16.29
  • Hangers for closet: $9.67
  • Dinner at Ocean Grill with boyfriend: $50

Saturday

  • Lunch at Blue Water Grill: $28
  • Dinner and movie with boyfriend (he paid): $0

Sunday

  • Brunch for self and boyfriend: $25.00
  • Printed forms at Staples: $2.71
  • Picture frame from Filene's basement: $6.49
  • Dinner at Alice's Tea Cup: $18

Total: $546.72

To spend less I did exactly like Veronica of NY. I gave myself a monthly allowance.In this way I saved a lot of money and still I could enjoy my life. also i have a dairy where I write all my expences.
