Great articles and advice. I just wanted to share a great site that provides a free credit score, the piece missing from your annual credit report. I know what you are instantly thinking: it is a scam but this seems legitimate and was featured on my local news last week.

It's called Credit Karma.

There have been errors on my credit report from them for years. Not amount of disputing - including to the FTC has corrected them. It is as if I have no rights to the information in the credit report. They won't correct the errors nor disclose how they got there (such as who gave them the incorrect information). I don't have a lot of creditors and none of them has incorrect information - only Experian.

I sympathize with the letter about Bank of America and the poor soul trying to get someone's head into the game. I have found that there are no heads or hearts in business today. People always try to play by the book which does not work in this day and time. To all you customer service reps of businesses and heads of businesses out there: If you want to do the right thing....simply put your head and heart into the mix. If your humanity is not involved in all your decisions and with everything you do, all will be lost.

I left a Mastercard which I had thru Bank America in a restaurant along with my drivers license. Known to me, twod ays after I left the card & licesne behind, someone must have went out and used my card without any problems. Get this--I don't sign the back of my credit cards, but put on the signature strip: ASK/Check ID. Well, two day later I got a warning e-mail from BankAmerica advising me that "they detected irregular credit activity". I immediately called and the fraud Rep. advised me that someone used my card and they then closed the account to further use. Well, the issued me a new account number but no card as I requested. BankAmerica then denies my "FRAUD CLAIM" since I didn't report the lose of the card immediately! WHAT ??? I told them that I wasn't aware that I left my Visa & drivers license behind, so how could I be responsible. It has been 9 months, Bank Of America refuses to send me copies of the "FRAUD" charges so I can prove that my signature was forged and I have now filed a formal complaint with the Comptroller of Currency to investigate the situation. I was just informed by another company that I used the same card to make a charge with, that Bank America charged back a "vaild" charge that I never once claimed was not made by me. The BANK is itself breaking lending and credit policies and now they are committing fraud! WATCH OUT FOR BANK AMERICA when it calims that you "have zero% FRAUD LIABILITY" That is a false claim on their part.

Roberta,

What is the response that you get? Do they cite the 20-year-old business licenses? Most credit report information dates back only 7 to 10 years. It sounds like you have a strong case for correcting the error.

When my son was 18, now age 38, he applied for a local business license to do motorcycle repairs out of the garage. Even since the free credit reports became available, mine have indicated that my address is not residential house but rather a business. Despite numerous attempts to correct this, how do you prove I do, indeed, live in a house? Send them a picture?
