this year it is very uique gift shopping for me. I have a friend show me this gift book. There are over 40 choices in each price range. Hand these to each of my people and they will choose what ever they want and go online and redeem it. Hip isn't it. I loved it,as it saves me lot of time, money and energy. And I'm a hero and they like what they chose, not me guessing.

This economy has hit my wallet (and my pantry) pretty hard considering my full time grad student status. My number one "in" gift is food. Non-perishable food. It is pretty humiliating to be asking my grandparents to give me food or money for food, but it's what I need and will put to good use. Usually I just ask for DVDs and music...."stuff." Right now I don't need "stuff" but I do need food.
Last year my boyfriend got me tickets to Hamlet with Patrick Stewart, this year I might ask to spend one night together without the distraction of our friends and the TV...although the friends are ok as long as it's over a board game.
I haven't figured out what I'm giving yet....maybe promises to call people more than once in a blue moon.

My 14-year-old son loves playing board games and is always bugging me to play them. I don't really like to...but I'm going to give him coupons for "Must-Play-Monopoly-With-Me" this Christmas. Not very creative, as coupon-gifts are old news, but it's something he will love.
I know I'm actually lucky to have a teenage son who WANTS to do anything with his mom, so I should be more grateful, anyway!

This year I'm shopping online for my mom and friends in trendy, fun botiques but I'm shopping only their clearance or sale sections.
I set a price limit for each person I'm buying a gift for.
In some cases such as with my brothers and their wives, I know that a gift of money will serve them best at this point in their lives. That way, they can use the money for whatever they need (such as gas, groceries, etc...) or want (such as a date or items for the home). With money gifts, I can budget a set amount for the gift and I save on gift wrap, too!
Another classic I've used in the past is to frame a nice, recent photo of yourself and/or spouse, pet, sibling, etc...and give it with a card to grandparents, parents, siblings, etc...
