Credit cards are great for money management and the payback can really help your budget. In the past 10 years, I have bought two GM vehicles and used the rewards from my GM credit card as part of my down payment amounting to almost $6300. That's a good return for purchasing the things that I normally would buy - gas, groceries, doctor visits, medications, etc. For those who say they are not that disciplined, I say, keep your receipts and tally them on a daily or weekly basis to make certain you stay within your income. Don't buy anything you wouldn't purchase if you were paying cash. Be certain to look for your bill in the mail so that you can pay off the monthly balance on time and avoid interest charges.

Wow, I had no idea. Very helpful article. I just have one credit card which is my Visa that I always use.. I pay on time. The rewards I'm offered aren't very great. Do you recommend switching or opening another credit card? And which one would you say rewards the best? Please give us more articles like this one, Amal Rhoe!!!

Last year, I used my MasterCard to order all of my Christmas gifts when I found out I would get free shipping and 20% off my order through Red Envelope if I paid with my card.

I definitely suggest checking what discounts and benefits are available for your card before you do your Holiday shopping this year.

It was great because I was not only able to save money, but I earned airline miles too.

I am on board with taking advantage of credit card rewards -- this weekend, my husband and I got a free five course dinner on a gift card from Wachovia Rewards. As long as you play your cards right -- and don't take on debt to get rewards -- there is such a thing as a free lunch (or dinner).
