Somehow, I don't think Gwyneth worries about saving money. Seems like an oxymoron!

Anyway, I was hoping for a good recipe for making a baguette from scratch, not just a way to put garlic butter on it.

Foodies would surely consider this to be cheating, but here's how I do it, and it's still really good:

Toast some regular bread in a regular toaster. Spread it with margarine (or butter) and sprinkle on some garlic powder and some dried herbs of your choice. If you have a Penzey's Spices near you or are inclined to order from their website, their "Mural of flavor" herb blend makes a great addition.
