Why Young People Are in Trouble

Prepaid is worth considering for everything. With a cell phone it's a good way to guard against hidden charges and overpaying. Tracfones are worth using for that reason alone, if no other. Not signing a contract or getting a bill is a good thing for anyone at any age, imho.

If parents can teach their kids money management, it can help.

I got prepaid cellphones for my 2 girls and they have an "allowance" of a certain number of minutes. If they go over, they can get an "advance" on next month's but it only happened once.

This won't work for everyone but it seems to be working for us. We use Net10, by the way, and the calls are only 10¢ a minute and 5¢ per text.

First it was houses, then it was credit cards. Just wait for the student loan meltdown, because if you went to school in the era of high tuition and "cheap" loans, and didn't have parents who could pay for anything, you have loans...and lots of them. When you have people who are just starting out from grad school with 100K in debt and no jobs available or settling for lower paying jobs, those loan payments are not going to get paid...
