I pay a very high fee to use a American Express card but when I made an electronic payment on the due date, my account was frozen without notice to me until the posting was cleared between my bank and AMEX (about 48 hrs depending on whether or not it comes due on a Friday). That should be against the law. I am not late, I paid on the date, if it had been a check, it would have posted to my account and only be a problem if it bounced. They did reverse the late fee after the payment cleared....why encourage customers to pay electronically and then penalize them? I was told I can pay by phone on the due date and they would make a notation....this is labor intensive and not cost effective to AMEX......can't they figure that out?
