I recently left corporate america to start up my own bookkeeping business. I must say that I secured 90% of my clients through good-old fashioned appts., drop-ins, and ch. of commerce networking meetings.

Thank you! In comparison to other articles on job searching yours is very specific and useful. It outlines the why and the how-to for those of us that are new to the idea of using online social networking to advance the job search.

This was a great article in terms of providing very actionable advice on how to leverage social networks. I think its great to build and leverage your network but it is also important to understand the strength of your network. Anyone can get to "500+" Linkedin connections - "Lion" status in Linkedin parlance (or "lying" status?).

And Linkedin could tell you that you have 60,000 second degree connections, but wouldn't it be nice to find a way to identify those in that group that might actually take a call for an informational interview? Who in that group will actually be most helpful in a job search? That's one of the problems we're trying to address at www.cvcertify.com.

Will be forwarding the link to your article to my contacts and plan to mention it in meetings this week as well as the new episode of U&U and me too.

THANKS Sharon!

Thanks Rebecca for retweeting as that's how I arrived here to read it. :)

This is great information. I still consider myself a newbie in using social media as described here -- learning fast though! :) I love how social media has expanded my circle -- both professionally and socially. And I'm excited to read and hear how it can play an integral part in career growth. Thanks for sharing!

This is what I have been preaching for over a year now. I have friends who don't understand why i share so much on social sites and use twitter so much. They think social media is only a vehicle to be 'social' but it is so much more! Thank you for putting this out there in plain English.
