I GET MORE AND MORE DISSAPOINTED WITH WHERE THE USA BEHAVIOR HAS BECOME. EVEN IN TIMES SUCH AS NOW WHERE A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE IN A FINATIAL CRISIS. YES "C R I S I S", BUT STILL THERE ARE THE PICTURE TO THE WORLD, PEOPLE CAMPING OUT TO BY A PIECE OF ELECTRONICS THAT IN A MATTER OF MONTHS OR EVE JUST WEEKS END UP IN THE TRUSH MAKING MORE POLLUTION TO THE ENVIRONMENT.

ONE EUROPEAN TV STATION POINTED OUT THIS PHENOMENUM, AND CALLED: CAPITALISM (WE ALREADY KNOW ABOUT THAT, BUT EVEN MORE THE MATERIALISTIC MIND THAT MAKES PEOPLE FORGET THE REAL MEANING OR "THANKSGIVING"

50 YEARS AGO WHEN I FIRST FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS CONMEMORATION, I SAW THE WHOLE COUNTRY GATHERED WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS TO GIVE THANKS FOR WHAT WE HAD, AND EVEN IF WE DIDN'T HAVE.

TODAY, IS IGNORING THE TRADITION FOR A PIECE OF METAL, A PIECE OF JUNK. HOW SAD!

CHRISTMAS IS THE SAME. MORE ATTENTION IS TO THE TV SETS WATCHING SPORTS WITH PASSION AND FANATISM, THAN PAYING ATTENTION TO FAMILY, IGNORING ANY TYPE OF REFLEXION OF WHAT THE MEANING OF THE DAY IS.

I BELIEVE IF MARTIANS WOULD LAND ON EARTH DURING THE CHRISTMAS SEASON, THEY WOULD GO BACK HOME TO TELL ABOUT HOW ON EARTH, EARTHLINKS, HAV A "GOD" CALLED "MACYS" OR "SEARS" OR "TARGET".

I am glad someone is thinking the way I do. Thanksgiving Day is slowly being forgotten. I like Thanksgiving and the Retailers are slowly pushing it

out of the picture. There is more to living than Christmas buying to make some companies rich.

First things should first. Be thankful for many things than going into debt for one day. Anyway Christmas

is too commercialized. What happened to giving from your heart than seeing how much money can be spent.

It's interesting that, even though this article's main topic is preserving the spirit of Thanksgiving, and even though the word Christmas is used to describe the holiday, or Christian holy day, that falls on the 25th of December, Jose says he's "not concerned with Thanksgiving." So why is he commenting on this article, which IS concerned with it? Additionally, why is "holiday" (holy day) recently considered to be so derogatory? Isn't Christmas a holiday? Besides that, I don't know one atheist or non-Christian who considers Christmas (either the holiday itself or the actual word "Christmas") to be derogatory.

As for me, I am concerned with preserving the spirit of Thanksgiving, which is my favorite holiday, and I appreciate the article.

The only time I ever hear or read anything about it, it's from a small minority of Christians (who are supposed to be forgiving and turning the other cheek when they think they're being slighted, not attacking the so-called "enablers" Jose mentions.

As for the article he gives as an example of this "enabling," How to Host Holiday Gatherings for Less: Are there no Thanksgiving gatherings, no New Year's Eve or New Year's Day gatherings, no Hanukkah gatherings? Must all of these be called Christmas gatherings, or must they simply not be discussed? Is the "mere mention" of them seen as derogatory?

Thank you, Jose, for pointing that out. Going forward, I will be more conscious of my use of the words "Christmas" and "holiday." I appreciate you bringing my attention to that.

I'm not concerned with Thanksgiving, my concern lies with the atheist assault on Christmas, with even the mention of the word Christmas is seen as a derogatory.

The anti-Christmas mentality has crept into every aspect of life. One only has to look at some articles on this site referencing holiday instead of Christmas as proof of that. (ex. How to Host Holiday Gatherings for Less)

It is only with Christian holy days that people seem to be bothered with, because I don't see atheists and their enablers attacking Hanukkah or the Muslim holidays.
