Seeking an Energy-Efficient TV? Yes, It's Confusing

i notice every time i check out the tv's in the electronics section of a store, there is so much heat generated from all the plasma and lcd tv fronts panels, it's unreal. THAT'S USED ENERGY. i know crt's had heat from the back, but, personally, i think the newer tv's use more energy. tv's have been for many years called instant on. this is because the transformer inside is always on, even if it is turned off. if the tv is plugged in it is on. the same goes for all electronics, even your cell phone charger you left plugged in the wall is still on. a transformer uses the same amount of power whether the device is turned on or not. i also see my old 32 inch samsung crt for 12 years has a crisper picture and color output than any of the lcd's or plasma's. i've also heard that plasma's are the worst for gaming as they go to crap faster. i don't know about lcd's. my crt is still great due to the game setting built into it. so, how much energy does the new tv's actually use? no one is seriously comparing or scientifically looking into it. money gets the answer the builders are looking for. not the truth.
