Truckers Call for Help on Diesel Prices

Democrats call for "Energy Indepence", but the technology they cite to solve our problems do not exist and/or are not ready for the masses. (ie. electric cars plus others). If I were "king" (haha) this is what I would declare: Open up all capped oil and gas wells and start pumping like crazy; drill in ANWAR, the Dakotas and off-shore; do NOT export any of our own oil; stop using food as fuel substitutes (ie corn). Build more refineries. Try to maintain the ecology. DON"T POLUTE needlessly and carelessly. As JFK declared in the '60's for putting a man on the moon, declare an all-out development of other energy sources. RESULTS: OPEC wouldn't get our money; the amount of dollars going overseas would drasticly drop causing the value of the dollar to rise, create more jobs in the U.S., cost of corn, beef and other foods stuff would go down, cost of fuel would go down. I can not take mass transportation because it doesn't exist here. I already traded in for a 36 MPG car. Just give us an option. CONGRESS: do something! talk is cheap! Dems control both houses, show SHOW US SOMETHING since you declare you have all the answers!

Your missing the point here. Diesel is the cheapest fuel to produce and the most expensive bu y. The answer is taxes. Diesel fuel very green and 30% more efficient then gas. If you drive a diesel car, you are being penalized by the truckers on road taxes So the story goes, how can the manufactures sell high efficient diesel cars like Europe, if the government is taking away the advantage with the taxes. Off road diesel is about $2.45/gallon. And by the way, the price of a barrel of oil has only risen 5% this year. Your truckers do have a lot to complain about!

I am tired of people complaining about gas prices, but not doing anything. I parked my gas guzzling van and bought a motorcycle. Went from 8-10 MPG to 45-55 MPG. At $3 per gallon, I was spending the better part of $60 per week on gas. Today I put $2 in my tank because I intend to drain the tank tomorow for maintenance. When I got home I was dissapointed to find the gas guage exactly where it was before I filled up. Then I realized that it would have cost me well over $12 with my van. The best part of riding is I make less impulse buys like doughnuts from Krispy Kreme. I would guess I save $300 per month. I do pay $45 per month for insurance and paid $2k for the bike, but the bike will still be worth $2k in a year and I will have saved $3K. Even if I spend $3K in extra maintenance, I will have not given the oil companies money I will never see again. I would be hard pressed to even spend $1K though as I do my own maintenance.
