u.s econmy is going down and many changes should be apply.
Bush administration is taking this country down. war in irak is expensive we should vote for a democrats candidate.
dont you think that gas prices and dollar value plus many other problems this country is comfronting is not enought to say that economy is bad?

I agree, there is probably very little truth to what is being said with the economy, oil, etc. I do hope there is very little truth with the falling house prices. Anyways, what about the gas going down to $2 for 6ms and see how the economy can be more positive? I think more people would travel, spend more, eat out more (like Obese America really needs that) maybe even the housing market can rise a bit!. If there is a change with the gas prices being lowered, then the Gas companies should send us a Gas Stimulous Check, especially if just recently on the news it was addressed that Chevron made $5.17 BILLION dollars just from March-now!! So, I don't believe that the oil is so low or whatever is said to have the audacity to race the prices just because.... If there is no change, then okay, forget it,, but common sense says that if you lower one thing, then other things can go higher (travel, spending) as well as other things go even lower.... so, how can I get that idea out there?

Well written article. The only thing that could be added is a reference to THE FAIR TAX. If we can get it passed even some of these people will be able to get a job.

The idea of going to college to party is rather silly. If you want to do well in life, do it but it has to be your choice and no one else can make it for you. There are some attributes of successful people, they don't come home during daylight and they are on the job before daylight. They don't worry about what basketball shoe is popular, they are concerned with how they do their own job and always try to make it better. They are not jealous of what other people make, they want to do well because doing well is fun but so many of those envious of others wealth would not know that. The American economy is almost perfect for someone to do well in because there are many needs that could be filled. Envious people will not fill those needs and that is their loss.

Every critique of this article is littered with left-wing talking-points. NT ONE is individually constructed. But that doesn't mean I completely agree with the author. Our economy is in trouble and losing ground to India and China because less and less people think it's cool to be smart and pursue high-tech occupations. Our top undergrad and most certainly graduate programs in math and science are full of foreign nationals. I remember back in middle school I was made fun of for getting straight A's. This is not the future of a country wanting to lead the world into the modern age. Andrew of TX has a great (non-talking) point: taking an easy major and partying all through college are NOT gonna get you a job and healthcare. They're gonna make you a dependent on government (read: a dependent of productive people who actually pay taxes).

I love the doomsayers! Not only do ya'll manage to turn a small squall into a hurricane but you do so with such amatuerish skill and zeal, it makes much of the situation a comedy for those who, instead of reading off talking points, actually break out their old econ textbooks and have a good honest look and the raw data of the US economy. In addition, I look at those doomsayers who come from mostly "blue" states.... States with higher union payrolls and taxes and all the other liberal ideaology in full swing.
I will be honest. I graduated six months ago and I work only half the year, making about 65,000 before taxes. The other half of the year is vacation time for me. Maybe all you want-to-be political science majors, art majors, interior design, etc etc etc should realize that your easy college degree is pretty much unless. The money you did set away during the "good times" has come back to bite you because you just had to have that new car and flatscreen and big apartment/house and computer and nice watch and and and and......
Stupidity and poor decisions will always get you in the hole more quickly than you get out. So doomsay away. I'll be laughing in a few years when I'm sitting off Brazil servicing a couple rigs with pipe as they drill the largest field (that's right... bigger than Saudi Arabia). And when I get home.. maybe I'll go take a tour of than new refinery they're building in S. Dakota... alittle extra capacity might go a ways towards easing your burden. And ofcourse, you'll be on these news sites saying you knew it wasn't going to be that bad... etc etc.

I'm kind of tired of reading posts from people who complain that they just aren't as well off as they were. Well lets look at, how many of you thirty years ago knew people who owned more than one state of the art giant color TV, had central heating and cooling, cable TV/satelite TV with Tivo, has multiple cell phones for the family members, has more than two cars (one being an SUV), answering machines, toys that require batteries(lots of batteries), toys that require tv's(WII, Playstation, XBox), Home computers, Internet service (home and phone), MP3 players, designer clothes on their kids ($50 + sneakers), atv's, watercraft, digital cameras, eats out at nice restaurants two + times a week, lives an a house that is greater than 2000 square feet, belongs to a gym, belongs to a community association that has a pool, can go to wal-mart and fill up the cart for forty dollars, can spend x amount of dollars voting on American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, Starbucks coffee and all the other wonderful things that we all seem to find the money for. But, the essentials health insurance, savings accounts for rainy days, fuel costs, food, medications, we all of sudden don't have the money. Maybe the people complaining should look at their own exspenses and see just were your money is going. Certainly the economy hit a bump but it is still growing and in time will be back on top. It always does. So if life on you is hard then do something constructive to fix it, work harder, get another job , make yourself valuable, save better and stop wasting money and it will work out for you. I know I went from no car, no electricity to owning my own home and cars and rasing two children. It was hard but it happened. Waiting on the government to fix your problems will not help, some of you say the current government caused your problems and a new government will fix them. IT WILL NOT. You are on your own. Sorry for any mispelled words, not the worlds best typer.
