McCain: Obama Stimulus Bill Stiffs Average Americans

February 4, 2009 RSS Feed Print

John McCain hits the Obama stimulus bill hard on his Facebook page:

Recently, the Senate began debate on an economic stimulus package that is intended to get our economy back on track and help Americans who are suffering through these difficult times. Unfortunately, the proposal on the table is big on the giveaways for the special interests and corporate high rollers, yet short on help for ordinary working Americans. I cannot and do not support the package on the table from the Democrats and the Obama Administration. Our country does not need just another spending bill, particularly not one that will load future generations with the burden of massive debt. We need a short term stimulus bill that will directly help people, create jobs, and provide a jolt to our economy.

I believe we need to evaluate every bit of spending in this stimulus proposal with one important criteria - does it really stimulate the economy and help create jobs - if the answer is no, it does not belong in a so-called stimulus package. Furthermore, the stimulus must include significant direct relief to American workers in the form of payroll tax cuts and programs to help homeowners keep their homes. Finally, we need an end game to this stimulus so that when our economy recovers, these spending programs do not remain permanent and saddle our children with a skyrocketing national debt.

I appreciate the discussions President Obama is having with my Republican colleagues, but the time for talking has come to an end and we must now begin some serious negotiation. But as of yet, Republicans have not been given the opportunity to be involved. The House of Representatives passed a stimulus bill without a single Republican supporting it. In the Senate, the Democrat leadership is trying to jam the existing proposal through regardless of reservations from a number of members. With so much at stake, the last thing we need is partisanship driving our attempts to turn the economy around.

I have long been a fighter against wasteful spending in Washington and long an advocate for a balanced budget -- that will never change. I realize we face extraordinary challenges with our economy today, but that is not an excuse for more irresponsibly from Washington. I hope you will join me in saying no to this stimulus package as it currently exists by signing this petition.

So much for Washington working together for all the people. Can you say Socialism!!!! Hold on to your pants because we are in for a long ride. We are on are way to another Great Depression. If you take the time to see how the depression started and what kept us in it for so long you can see where we are headed as a nation.

Mr. Obama'S plan will not work... The GOVERNMENT IS STEALING FROM THE YOUTH AND GENERATIONS TO COME... WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!

You guys have way to little critical thinking about one's experience with computers. McCain can write. He just can't use a computer. I bet he can even do math. Unlike those who are being educated in our school systems today. Let's take a look at revisionist historians and how they are deleting essentials like "The Bill of Rights" and the "Constitution" and the Gettysburg Address. I am sorry---the stimulus package looks like the line item veto assignees during the past presidents term in office.

Exactly how can one believe it is possible to create jobs when putting $200 million toward the new lawn in the Mall in Washington, D.C. How can we create jobs by giving $500 million to the National Endowments for the Arts? Does this mean we will no longer have "starving artist sales" at Holiday Inn?

Take a look at the stimulus package and you will find money for Block Grants for organizations like ACORN. Pell Grants for college students---not really looking for jobs---more like looking for a revisionists version of education. More money for social programs. Yep--and don't forget about saving the Bay in California with 60 BILLION dollars for cleaning up the bay? Does anyone care there are people who are still homeless and out of work down in Orleans? Where are the funds we were promised to create a REAL LEVY system?

People, you need to get a grip on reality. This stimulates nothing more than your children and your grandchildren's wallets when we have to pay this money back (with interest.) Personally, I am excited I don't have children or grandchildren so when I go---I am leaving it all to my church---because it can't be taxed at all then. How do you like those pork rinds?

I am a democrat who does not support such an outlandish spending bill. Perhaps it is time for the democrats to take their heads out of the vision of the messiah they created and look at what they are supporting. McCain has nothing to do with the creation of this mess of a bill. He is simply stating common sense. Something greatly lost on the democrats who are seeking a free hand-out.
