Obama Pushes $900 Billion Stimulus Package

February 5, 2009 RSS Feed Print

The president just got finished giving a speech promoting passage of his stimulus package. I found it kind of weird. I mean, as usual, Obama served as his own best spokesman. But he seemed a little peeved. If the bill is in trouble, he has no one to blame but himself. The White House chose to pretty much take a hands-off approach to the package other than setting some broad parameters. Pelosi & Co. wrote it and stuffed it full off stuff that had nothing to do with stimulating the economy nor contributing to long-run economic growth.

Yes, the Republicans are pushing tax cuts, but so are many liberal economists who think, for instance, that cutting the payroll tax would provide a huge boost to the economy. Liberals have also assailed the package for being to wimpy on things like infrastructure spending and moving toward a "green" economy. I am pretty sure if Larry Summers, Austan Goolsbee, Christina Romer and Jared Bernstein said in a room and came up with a package, it would be a vast improvement on the mishmash that congressional Dems have devised.

we need help too these homeowners are stacking up on this stimulus money not using it basially on repairs or to save the home, because the one they rent out is just a income when push comes to shove they already have a roof over their heads we as renters are just out, if they they lose the extra property, we need help (protection)we are voters too. just because we couldn't purchase in some cases we pay rent and we need help,(protection)from losing a roof over our heads when we fall short don't you think, don't save some and forget the rest, fair is fair, we all have families.

Where's the break for renters? You know, those of us that pay our bills on time every month. For if we don't, we will be swiftly evicted. Renters who live with a budget EVERY month. People who don't live off of imaginary equity. People who got into a house that they knew they couldn't afford, should not be rewarded, period. I rent, have since I got out of the service. If I don't pay my rent, or if I happen to rent a place that is beyond my means, I'm out. No tears for me or anybody like me in that situation. Tax breaks DO NOT CREATE JOBS. Unless we can rewind time and elect Carter over Reagan, we're going to pay a heavy price in this country for the domestic policies that were started then. The absolute foudation of capitalism is greed. And our rapid decline will continue until this fact is recognized, and dealt with acordingly.
