Departure Day: Judd Gregg Out at Commerce, Joanna Pacitti Out at 'Idol'

February 12, 2009 RSS Feed Print

I saw both these coming. Sen. Judd Gregg has withdrawn his nomination to be commerce secretary over a) concerns about the ginormous $800 billion stimulus package and b) the decision to have the director of the 2010 Census report to the White House, as well as to the commercy secretary. But will his departure get crowded out by the disqualification of raven-haired Joanna Pacitti from American Idol. And you know, these things always come in threes ...

Who would've thunk it?

He NOW has a chance to be the defacto Minority Leader and even in play for 2012. He has shown principles (in my neighborhood, we all it "cajones").

Let's see if he has true leadership potential.

Judd is back where he belongs! The coarse that this administration has pursued over the past three weeks is not the "change" that all Americans can believe in - and is not the change that many moderates and independents voted for. We are being given a toxic mix of Bush tactics and fiscal irresponsibility coupled with pure failed ideology straight out of the 1960s and 1970s big government playbook.

Guess what folks, the past eight years under Bush were not years where small government philosophy thrived - it was one of the biggest grabs of power by the federal government coupled with the biggest and most irresponsible spending initiatives since perhaps LBJ. Now, we are getting more of the same - and probably accelerated - from Obama.

Judd wouldn't have been able to do much as Commerce secretary as he can do in the Senate. He is famous for sticking to fiscal restraint principles and is needed to help reform entitlements and taxes. We have failed to fundamentally reform either since the 1980s and time is ticking. We should not grow the federal government or entitlements until we can assure the long term solvency of existing ones like Social Security and Medicare. Judd did the right thing!

that Judd Gregg somehow did not know that Obama is a Democrat and that the Obama administration follows a Democratic agenda when he allowed his name to be in nomination all this time.

The guy is mercurial. Good riddance.
