Why Jon Stewart Really Attacked Jim Cramer

I agree with your comments about Stewart. But that's how comedians make their living--cut down others that are more competent to try to elevate themselves. Stewart reminds me of Bill Maher. The liberal media always give themselves a pass but as soon as the right starts cutting anyone down--watch out--like in Stewart's latest escaped where CNN fired Sanchez for calling Stewart a bigot. Do you think Stewart would ever get fired for doing much worse..?!

Jon Stewart..also a jew! Look at the lefties getting all upset at an article which doesn't paint Stewart as the god of all things. I'd laugh, except you morons took Stewart's liberal platitudes to heart and elected a socialist who's ruining the nation. If we survive, maybe I can laugh in 2012 when he's replaced.

Everyone now knows that the stock market is totally rigged and that everyone who is not Goldman-Sachs is a sucker. Go peddle your insanity elsewhere. The U.S. is over. The New World Order is looming large. I will keep my real thoughts to patriot web sites. You are and have always been thugs for the elite mafiosi.

...I would still have all of it. As one of the workers who you think are imaginary or commie or what - I can't really tell - I'm struggling with the idea that we were all socialized to accept the 401(k) as a relatively safe, long-term investment strategy. My account has lost over 38% of it's value and I know friends with worse results. I wish just a handful of the so-called journalists out there were asking questions half as astute as the ones Jon Stewart was asking.

I know it's difficult, but next time at least try to understand what the debate is really about before you critique it. You're lucky to have a forum in which you get paid to publish your opinions; unfortunately, you choose to write something as idiotic as this. I read better analysis in the comments to this article.

"When are we going to realize in this country that are wealth is work, that we're workers."

Are you serious...?

"When are we going to realize in this country that OUR wealth is work, that we're workers."

The media is pathetic...

Of all of Jon Stewart's comments, that's what you stuck on?

How about the gambling with my pension Fund?

How about the "Side bets" going behind the scenes on that no one with 401k's was aware of? Where the REAL money was apparently being made?

How about the fundamental disparity between suckers like me being told to Buy and Hold for teh long run, while the people GIVING me that advice Borrow and Sell at furious paces.

With all of this, you think that Jon Stewart's argument boils down to telling us to put our money under a mattress?

Do you work for CNBC too?

Mr. Pethokoukis, are you a part of the Jim Cramer "Deep Capture" cover-up (I urge everyone who hasn't heard of "deep capture" to google it)??

This article is one of the worst, most abstract, incoherent and nonsensical pieces of garbage I have seen in journalism (I wish I could say for a long time, unfortunately this kind of rubbish is a daily occurence these days). There seems to be only one explanation for such a poorly researched piece...

Alternatively, you could quote the bit where Stewart says that the 401(k)s and IRAs and pension funds of America -- all long-term investments -- capitalize the day-to-day gambling (and manipulation) of traders.

How could you not understand what Jon Stewart was saying? This article Jon pethekoukus wrote is a little ridiculous. I have never had a problem with Cramer or investors, I am actually a Finance major, but that wasn't the point of the argument. Stewart said he has a 401k!!! That is investing! He said he has friends on wall street that do the right thing and are involved in investing!! For this so called columnist, journalist, or whatever to try and say oh Stewart must all want us to put money in a low interest savings account?!?! Where did you get that? What do you think a 401k is? It involves the stock market(hint) He was making an argument against the news media for not reporting some of the things that actually go on... it had nothing to do with the percent of return you can make, it had to do with them selling the idea that you can do nothing and make money. Which is false! People can't watch a TV show and expect to make millions in the stock market just from a couple investing programs, IT TAKES WORK, research, school, knowledge.Ofcourse people need to invest and think of themselves as investors, its the only way to get a decent return, it wasn't against investing, it was against lies and deceit. This is the first article of yours I've read, I won't make this mistake again.

James,

Are you expressing a belief that it's sane to expect 10-20 percent return on your money for no risk? Did Jon Stewart actually say anything about savings accounts or social security?

You seem to have set yourself up a strawman.
