I couldn't agree more that a carbon tax might just be not only the best, but the most politically expedient route for members who actually want to reduce emissions and stem the tide of global climate change. Not only does a carbon tax avoid the evasion and market manipulation inherent to cap and trade, it significantly reduces emissions, incentivizes the creation of "green" technology and returns the revenue to the people.

Re: "ice sheets and glaciers are melting much faster than anticipated"

You just might want to consider volcanic activity. There are actually hot springs in Antarctica.

Besides, we produce such a piddling amount to the total amount of CO2 for the planet (approx 3%) it is preposterous to blame all that melting (if nova didn't hype the story) on humans.

I don't need a cap and trade scheme to keep my thermostat turned down. It's only people like Al Gore that need that kind of incentive, and I don't see him taking his green pledge.

Any one who watched Extreme Ice, http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/extremeice/program.html on NOVA recently is aware that ice sheets and glaciers are melting much faster than anticipated. The thought of postponing a Cap and Trade Carbon Tax is alarming. Putting this off for the future is unthinkable and incredibly short sighted. Contact the president and your senators and representatives to put pressure to change this resistance to taxing carbon. Go to the the Extreme Sight website and see the fantastic footage and explanations of what is happening and what it means to our future.

Kilgour Trout (a fictitious name from Kurt Vonnegut) is simply lying about his infomation from the NASA website. Goto www.giss.nasa.gov/research/new/20090223/ and you will see it says the 10 WARMEST years on record have occured between 1997-2008.

They have Cap-And-Trade and what are the results: businesses close because they can make their profit on trading their CARBON CREDITS, businesses move their operations therefore a loss in jobs, all taxes are passed onto the consumer. Yes, I now get $10 more per pay period because Obama lowered my taxes but if this passes I'll be paying twice as much on my Natural Gas and Electricity Bill. That's a lot more than $10 dollars. Thank you ABC, MSNBC, CBS, and all the other Liberal Media for the Democratic propaganda. Tax and Spend, Democrats, Tax and Spend, Democrats, my pain is you!

The “Cap and Trade” initiatives on utilities will drive our bills up to a point that will make everyone’s heads spin, all to fight global warming which ended in 1998. Yes global warming stopped in 1998. I did not get that from a conservative blog but from the NASA website. Global temperatures leveled off in 1998, 2008 saw a drop and this year there will probably be another drop. The warmest year on record was in the 1930’s. The reason for the temperature rise in the ‘80s and ‘90s could be attributed to solar phenomenon that follows a sine wave resulting in 15-20 year periods of warming followed by periods of cooling. Though the Arctic sea ice reduced slightly, this was by far outweighed by increases in the Antarctic sea ice. The Antarctic sea ice has increased to the point where some fear that cooling will be hastened due to reflection. So give the politicians something that will advance their agendas they will run with it even if they do not understand it or really care about it. Did we see Al Gore move out of his mansion that burns a thousand bucks worth of electricity a month?

Cap and Trade “would be the equivalent of an atomic bomb directed at the U.S. economy—all without any scientific justification,” says Dr. S. Fred Singer, an internationally famed climatologist. Using the global warming/climate change scam, Obama and his accomplices plan to impose Cap and Trade, which will increase taxes; increase the cost of energy; force many companies to close; and multiply unemployment, poverty and despair, while increasing the power and wealth of Obama and his accomplices. It’s really an atomic bomb against the U.S. economy!
