Here is a interesting link. Gives deficits since 1900. Notice how when GOP's were in office deficits generaly went down.

I don't think the deficit will be $9.9T in 2009. I think the author meant to say the total of the deficits over the next 10 years are projected to be $9.9T.

The true deficit, though, is much higher than the $2T or so the CBO projects when it is calculated on an accrual basis, as the federal government requires businesses to do. It is only deceit - and an appeasing press - that allows our government to get away with the cash accounting method designed to mask the true deficit from public eye.

A table listing what the federal deficits actually have been, over the last 20 years or so, would be interesting reading, but I doubt that any of the press have the integrity to publish something like that.
