Last night I reinstalled Vista on my 15-month-old Toshiba laptop because both BITS and Microsoft Installer stopped working. Two weeks ago I had taken the wubi plunge into Ubuntu Hardy Heron; using the wubi.exe application, I installed Ubuntu 8.04LTS. My experience with HH was surprisingly good; Vista has only disappointed me. HH comes in a 64-bit version that my Core2 processor runs efficiently and easily; there is no 64-bit Vista Home version. I'm keeping Vista because I need it for a (very) few apps; but it looks like an Ubuntu future for me.

People who complain about Vista's hardware issues, need to turn their complaints elsewhere: to the hardware manufacturers who repeatedly fail to write drivers which are properly compatible with windows. My copy of Vista performed admirably, without a hitch, until Nvidia released driver updates that caused my nForce chipset to crash under Vista.

Let's face it, we'll be lucky to see Windows 7 by 2010. This is MS's attempt at the "we thought of it first" strategy. MS is running a PR campaign, trying to urge all of us that what they have "in the works" will beat anything that's currently available. Problem is, what will Apple's OS be able to do in 2010? How about the various, evolving linux distros? When the Zune 2.0 came out, they could finally compete with the iPod...Classic. When your new products repeatedly compete with things in the "classic" category, you've got a bit of work to do. The multi-billion dollar Vista can't even compete with XP, released in (gasp!) 2001. MS, you can't buy innovation - it must come from within.

Come on haven't these clowns learned anything? It took 4 years longer than predicted to deliver Vista and they jettisoned more features than actually made the release.

Perhaps in 2012 we will see the amazing, the incredible, the non-existent, Windows 7. But my bet is M$ Multitouch will never see the light of day.

MSFT has ALWAYS been out of touch (no pun intended) with its customers. MSFT was and is a Co. that BUYS their way into anything to make a buck. That strategy can only take you so far.

Let me refresh peoples memories....

6 BILLION $$$$ers later AND VISTA IS WHAT THEY HAVE TO SHOW FOR IT!!!

GOOD LORD!!!
