Online Storage Site Fails Amid Lost Files

I get scared using online file storage sites because you could easily lose all of your files if for some reason the company has a problem like Mediamax did. It may not be very likely to happen, but it still could. There are lots of reliable sites out there though such as http://www.opendrive.com . I've heard they have some amazing services to offer

There's quite a few storage sites available now. I would see a complete list of free online storage sites and compare features and options before I chose a service. www.freeonlinestoragesites.com posts a good review of the top sites.

I knew from the first time I saw MediaMax that they were destined for doom. Their offering was "too generous" with 25GB for free which would not make sound business sense. Combine that with a unreliable, slow service, and it was obvious they were not going to make it. Instead, I banked on a site that has been around for a long time (in this market), http://www.MyOtherDrive.com. Their free offering is very reasonable (5GB) and they have both online storage and file sharing. Their online backup is complete with unattended operation and AES 128-bit encryption. Combine that with their advanced sharing capabilities, and 'value pricing' and you know you have a winning site. They continue to innovate with new features on a regular basis - most recently, I see they now let me move and copy files between accounts with NO upload / download. No service besides them offers that as far as I have seen.

If Nirvanix and Mediamax are in no way attached, what about the alleged deletion of a host of files by Nirvanix sometime ago, if they are un-connected how come Nirvanix had access to Mediamax customers data?

How come their offices are across the road from each other.

Patrick Harr worked at Streamload.

If you think their is no connection you are deluded.

Nirvanix even offers a 100% SLA and even offered a helping hand to Linkup users to help them get some of their data back.

When did they offer to help Linkup users? Because, what I've read is them denying responsibility and basically saying "We can't help you".

Despite it being their fault - Mediamax says the lost files are the result of an engineering mistake on the part of Nirvanix.

Nirvanix's employees - most of them are former Mediamax employees. Nirvanix is in fact a spin-off company of Mediamax - the same people that screwed up and screwed Mediamax/Linkup customers are now at Nirvanix, and it is only a matter of time before they pull the same mistake again.

Justin, do you work for Nirvanix? What do people know about Fabrik?

Dave of XX,

You have your facts terrible wrong and are just trying to be harmful, but I see that the TechCrunch article does have it wrong too with links to questionable anonymous sources to support its "article".

Nirvanix is successfully supporting the storage requirements of some the largest corporations and government branches in the world. I have an account and have been experimenting with a file sharing app I want to bring to market and I have been really impressed with them.

Mediamax and Nirvanix are totally different companies, just because you read something on Techcrunch doesnt mean its 100% fact lets get that straight,Nirvanix even offers a 100% SLA and even offered a helping hand to Linkup users to help them get some of their data back. Cloud storage is the future and is very cost-effective for companies who do not have the budget to build in house data arrays. I'm shocked this blog doesn't even point out Amazon S3's recent 8 hour outage, get your facts straight.

mediamax is actually a corporate spin out from nirvanix, yet another name this company is now operating under. nirvanix lost many of the mediamax customer files, and is just trying to push all the damage to this spin-out that is now shutting down.

another related techcrunch article:

stay away from nirvanix
