It seems to me, way back when, Microsoft used to virtually give away its stuff, hooking people on Word and drawing them away from WordPerfect (which was the standard of the day). But this seems to me more of a desperation move, trying to get kids young and hook them on their products, tying them to a brand. A lot of corporations do that with corporate sponsorships of college events and such. Free may be a very good price, but when it's crap ion a box, no one is going to want to pay for it.

Would I pay for Vista?

Not a chance.
