The Mini now starts at $600.

Word today that Apple's desktop sales are stumbling (from the Wall Street Journal via CNet). Analysts say the company's emphasis on upscale markets is suffering in tight times. It's probably no coincidence, then, that Wired's Gadget Lab blog is reporting about long-overdue updates to the company's low-end Mac Mini.

I'm a fan of the Mini and hope the rumors are true. Victor Godinez at the Dallas Morning News goes further and hopes Apple will wake up and also sell a cheap Mac netbook, what he says could be nothing more than a "bulked up iPhone 3G."

Lets bring back the (new) Mac cube. as the kick all computer. The mac mini could be it. But lets develop one with all the new tech stuff. firewire 400 and 800, fast super drives, (blue ray)? more space for additional ram, high end video cards, etc. And then make a nice new led 30" monitor with built in camera.

How about producing a 30" monitor with the ability to attache one or two smaller 20" monitors on either side. This whole package could be sold as a pro studio set up , great for photographers, and graphic artist.
