Swords Rattle Over Palm Pre and Apple iPhone

the best thing that came out of this phone is the upppedy reactions of all the fanboys because finally a phone came out that smashes the crappy iphone into pieces. I had windows mobile.. and even though i had to learn tons of non fun stuff. i could install cabs to make my phone an iphone, or even a g1. i could do anything an iphone could do but better.. but i didnt have that rich UI and user friendlyness. Then this thing comes along. i got one on saturday. and i could not be even more excited. If this phone sucked.... then we wouldn't see 1000 threads of fanboys of apple bashing it. I say the more apple haters, the better for this phone.. keep hating innnovation and something truly amazing.

I am no Apple chearleader, but the Iphone is flat out the best smartphone available. This Pre is another me too. As for multitasking, who cares? I can only use one app at a time anyway. And with update, I know I have mail. No copy & paste, next release. Slight inconvenience, but I barely notice. No physical keyboard? I had one on my old blackberry and hated it.

In the end, the phone world wants to be like the Iphone. It's simple, elegant, and it works. Can somebody meet or exceed it? Market history says yes...but I think not yet. The Blackberry Bold is slow and choppy. This Pre is limited in scope and won't have the apps needed for a while. So the leader will remain the Iphone for at least the next year or two if Apple doesn't step it up.

I would be so pleased if people stopped claiming each new smartphone as an 'iPhone killer'. There are simply so many Apple zealots and poseurs out there that there's no chance that the iPhone will be 'killed' anytime soon. If ever.

That phone had people lining up around the block for its release, people who had never used an iPhone, had no concept of its limitations, couldn't possibly know whether or not it could even receive a decent phone signal, but were prepared to camp out for days to lock themselves into a ridiculously long, restrictive, expensive contract with a carrier they didn't want to be with, all because they wanted the bragging rights to an 'Apple iPhone'. And history has proven two things.

First that the iPhone was a roaring success. And secondly, that it was flawed in so many ways that if it had any other logo on it other than that Apple one, the 'faithfull' wouldn't have touched it with a 10 ft barge pole. But they shut off their cognitive reasoning and the rest is history.

So, it's safe to say, when a product's time is right, then it will be a success, regardless of its faults. I expect the same thing to happen with the Pre. But at least the Pre should have a much less flawed launch than that piece of rubbish that was the original iPhone.

And may Palm and the Pre prosper. By the looks of what I've seen so far, they truly deserve it.

Hear that Apple? They deserve it.

The consumer is the winner IF Apple is unsucessful in its bid to delay, or ultimately prevent, the introduction of the Palm Pre.

Can't wait for Verizon to get it. And it will, I'm sure. Palm isn't a stupid company.

If apple sues Palm and prevents consumers from buying the Pre the winner is Apple and both the consumer and Palm lose.

The wording in their patent seems like it would cover single-touch gestures too...like tapping which Palm pioneered. The patent excerpt that I read used "one or more heuristic gestures" repeatedly. A finger tap could be described as a single heuristic gesture right?

The Pre totally ripped off the iPhone. But, it's all good! They lined up with the fading network of the Cell phone industry and the worst provider of it.. Sprint!

It's like giving the best pice steak to a dog on it's death bead. It Palm was smart they would rip off the iPhone then put it on ever provider possible.

Palm will be sued Apple will wine.. then what? The Pre goes off the market?
