Digital TV Delay Won't Stop Stations From Making the Switch

This changeover is nothing but government greed, They SOLD the frequencies being vacated to the hated cell phone companies, so they can cause more traffic accidents with more phones.
I expect TV riots next week when poor people who can't afford converter boxes get angry.

It's TV for crying out loud. If the poor and the elderly's refrigerators were going to stop working it would be a problem. But TV? Go check a book out of the library.

As much as Congress would like to help the people who have not purchased a new TV or a TV converter box, yet another delay is not the answer. If the date is changed again, why would those who are not prepared not think that it could be changed yet again. Sooner or later, the switch must be made. Might as well do it now and get it over with.

Nothing would motivate the public to get all their ducks in a row more than going a few days without broadcast television. The switch to digital has been delayed for several valid reasons but this is an unnecessary one. One more example of the Government making things more confusing than they have to be. Reminds me of the arbitrary change to daylight savings time. I understand Christmas will be observed December 35 next year because I haven't gotten all my shopping done.

I printed some stuff from the government website on the switch and how to get coupons, and gave it to some old but alert folks months before coupons became available, i.e., over a year ago. They just recently are getting around to bothering and only because Radio Shack will do the work of applying for coupons for them. One must accept that some people are like that. It is still not a tragedy. The converter boxes are well within the pocket change of most Americans even without coupons. I've seen them as low as $29.95 at WalMart. I used to have a lot of contact with public aid recipients, and there was nary a one who couldn't afford at least that which is essential to life, namely a large, fancy TV set.

To put this on hold for 4 months is unnecessary and uncalled for. There is no reason for any further delay and I fail to understand what, at this late date, will be accomplished by this move. This has been delayed in the past and it is time to put an end to any further delay. Should this legislation pass I, for one, hope the stations will make the switch on Feb 17, 2009. The more that switch at that time the better.
