Apple Trounces Windows for Being Easy and Enjoyable

No surprise that Apple tops another survey for customer satisfaction. Maybe some surprise at the margin Apple has over its closest Windows competitor, according to the latest data from Forrester.

Apple earned an 80 percent rating in Forrester's "customer experience index" versus 66 percent for the highest-ranked Windows PC maker. The gap was 17 points for being easy to work with and 15 points for being enjoyable.

Also surprising, perhaps, was that it was discount PC maker Gateway that topped the chart among Windows PC makers. There wasn't that much difference among the Windows group, though, with Dell at the bottom with a 58 percent rating.

That suggests it's Windows at fault more than the hardware companies.

"Apple market share tops 10%"

Apple may be easy to use, but the market dominance by M$ brings advantages in number of available applications, for ex., which would be my main concern. I would prefer using Ubuntu to Windows, but I looked at the number of applications that I couldn't live without and abandoned the notion.

Apple is still a graphics and boutique brand.

Low price does not always - or even often - equal value.

There was a time when Apple's reputation as being "upscale" was probably at least partially deserved. No more. Macs hold up and stay useful orders of magnitude longer than any Windows computer, operate with far less down time, and just plain get the job done. They offer a cpu, the Mac Mini, for about $500 that performs at least as well as any consumer-level Windows machine.

I work in a library, where I have had an entry level Emac on my desk for about six years. In that time, every Windows machine in the library has been replaced at least twice, while my Mac is one of the most heavily used computers in the building and has not had 5 minutes of down time.

I would advise any working Joe who values his money to invest in a Mac.
