the world watches while the suppositly best and the brightess political minds openly display self serving interest;Capitolism and free enterprise absolutely!however, the too big to fail companies especially banks and healthcare have always deceived and stole from the american consumer.they hire the best legal minds who write their regulations and contracts;where upon the money roles in and for the right vote the politicans are paid. there is something wrong when a 100.00 payment on a $3,000 dollar loan and the monthly interest is $65.00.there is something wrong when ones health and life is of no importance to more than half of our country's brightess polical minds. there was a time a man's word was important,he stood behind his goods and services and lived by moral beliefs of right and wrong. our leadership has only two ways to go,while the world watches

Judging from the incomprehensibility of Jim of MN's post, and the simple-minded Bible-thumping of Judith of MD, it appears a critical mass of Americans have abrogated their critical thinking abilities.

Instead of learning from the mistakes of the past (Dutch tulip mania, anyone?), we hard-headedly insist on repeating them for ourselves. I just hope our country can afford this lesson. The bad thing is, we haven't yet seen the price tag to this debacle. Just wait til the other shoe drops. What shoe? Oh, there couldn't possibly be any toxic *commercial* real estate securitization and derivatives festering, right?

And the meltdown resulting from the deleveraging of something like that couldn't possibly shake other countries' faith in the US dollar, impelling them to choose an alternate reserve currency like the Euro, right?

Considering that there's nothing backing the US dollar but the "full faith and credit of the US Gov't"...Whaddya think will happen when that faith is lost by our trading partners and our fiat money becomes as valuable as Confederate dollars?

Please!!!!! Get a grip. Keep the blind faith out of the real issues. Pray all you want and I guarantee you nothing will get solved. We need to have a logical minds not delusional thoughts.

The present economic trend is a repeat of the great recessions of yester years. Although these CEOs had a remote influence on the whole sordid situation, the truth of the matter is GOD IS DRAWING THE ATTENTION OF AMERICANS to HIM. God rules over economic recessions hence He said in the time of draught, His people will not go hungry. AMERICANS TURN TO GOD, end of story!!

I think some (all?) knew they were greasing the right wheels to get a pass on what was illegal business until the 1999 Congress (thanks fellas!) We made a big deal of Enron, but anyone out of the 5th grade knew they were just a fish in the ocean.

Meg just happened to preside over a hot company during it's gestation and formative years... eBay was a hit to begin with. She's not a turnaround artist. As goes the economy, so goes eBay...

Like a lot of lucky CEO's & actors, they get big heads and all of a sudden announce (with feigned humbleness), "Time for public service"

Go away Meg....

By the way. I agree with the above poster. Paypal is a ripoff. Like a tax on top of the cut eBay already commands on sales. On big ticket items, I try to avoid PAYPAL like the plague. However, eBay requires you to offer it! Talk about unAmerican! Corporate America is a greedy lot. Meg with her billions... Just retire Meg, Go Away.. we don't need another overinflated ego in Sacramento....("I have been fortunate in life...now I want to give back...Vote for me!") Pleeeaaaase! Just go away... Feed em to the fish...

the stole $175 from me and leave me with no way to get my funds and also kicked me off their site and still had the balls to bill me for my store every month

sellers beware especially from pay pal. buyers can black mail sellers with ebays consent by giving bad feed back if you don't kiss their ass resulting in you being kicked off their site. EBAY PAY PAL LOOK FOR YOUR SUMMONS SEE YOU IN COURT ASS HOLES

I have a 100% feedback rating on eBay, yet in trying to just clean out some decent quality/not read that much anymore books (and other stuff it was just time to unload for a few bucks), very little actually sold. Even when offering FREE SHIPPING, detailed descriptions, and then being at "raised" search standing.

EBay should be thriving as recession cash-strapped folks look for bargains (seriously, some stuff is practically new over there). Instead, reports are that traffic is down.

I work in luxury sales, where you'd think people are cutting spending on...well...luxuries, as opposed to absolute needs, and guess what? I am always making my goals at work. It's easier to open a charge account in this economy than it is to sell a half dozen excellent quality used books on eBay.

Bring back Meg Whitman!
