I live in the Dallas/Ft.Worth area and have heard of all 10 retailers. In fact, the only one that is not in this area is O'Reilly's. We have Auto Zone. Maybe you should get out more and drive to Charlotte?

Not sure why you haven't heard of the 10 listed. I am in Dallas/Ft.Worth, TX area and I've heard of 9 of the 10 and when I looked at the products of Buckle, the one I did not recognize, their products, such as Guess, are very familiar. Maybe your focus is too close to home.

Out of these ten retailers, I've only ever heard of three of them.....are these retailers only on the West Coast? OR NYC? Obviously not all are national chains. This comes across as rather parochial. I get the feeling more expanded research should have been done on this piece....surely there must be more well known discount retailers that are gaining strength in the recession.

Staples stomped out many jobs and left veterns of Corporate Express with no where to turn. Many people were devestated by the hostel take over. Families were left to do without during a time where the job market was at it's worst with 700 applicants applying for a single position. Although, revenue seems to be up 26% it's a shame Staples could not have offered all the people they laid off worldwide at least a cashier or stocking job in one of their many retail stores.

Thrift retailers and parasite industries are booming which bodes of a grim economy. As long as our federal government spends excessively and taxes more, this senario can only worsen.

I live in Michigan and since we are the worst state economically more people are flocking to the thrift stores. I remember when there only use to be a couple people in for instance a store like (Goodwill) and now the line is out the door. Why buy new when you can find some really great deals at thrift stores.

Wal-Mart keeps raising it's prices in Florida, and buyers are more apt to go to The Dollar Store first for what they need. Ours in Fla. is booming!!
