I had a lively sit-down chat recently with Gary Vaynerchuk, founder of WineLibraryTV.com and author of the new bestseller Crush It: Why Now Is The Time To Cash In On Your Passion. Vaynerchuk is one of the most energetic folks I've ever met, and he has some compelling ideas about how to use the Web to indulge your avocations. Check out this video of the interview on Hulu:

Great interview. Rick asked questions of Gary that we all wanted to know the answers to. I have read Crush It a few times now and enjoyed it more each read through. Vaynerchuk is giving hope to anyone that has a passion and is willing to work hard towards their goals.

I liken the current situation not like the printing press, more like the industrial revolution. It allowed more businesses to make large quantities of materials and goods more cheaply and efficiently. But now everyone already has goods produced more cheaply, so now the playing field for manufacturing has essentially stabalized, and now the only leg up you can have on your competition is sales and execution of product/service. This is the same with the internet today, service and execution take time to perfect. @Garyvee, talks about being patient and realizing that it takes time to build up your brand, but ultimately, it pays to be patient.

Excellent interview. One of the reasons company's are afraid to adjust overhead is the necessary adjustment in profit. Long term sustainable profits are more valuable than quarter by quarter booms.
