This is nothing but an article written by someone using gov't statistics There is no truth to any of it. We are on a fast train to hell as a nation, can't you hear the whistle blowing.....?

People are asking, 'Where did we go wrong?' 'How did it happen?'

Yes, how did America slide from world leader to world follower? From technology innovator to consumer and leading buyer of other nation's products and ideas? How did a nation and culture go from a 'can do' attitude to one that simply asks, 'what's in it for me?'?

What became of America?

Good grief. Could it be any more obvious?

Education. Education. Education.

That's how - or rather the decline of it.

Who has been running education for the last 50 years?

That's why I left the U.S. and now teach very happily in Asia, where students want to learn, where they do learn, and where politics isn't pushed on teachers from a Teacher's Union or a political party (guess which one - same one that runs education, begins with a D) and agenda doesn't play any part in curriculum, where national holidays, including Christmas, by the way, are not marred by political correctness or other arms of thought policing.

If you live in America and you have children who go to public school, get them out of there - tomorrow. You've heard the horror stories about public schools in America, just realize they're much, much worse than that.

i don't know that I care. Should I care? Because I don't. If anything this is great news. Let the new crop of "smart" idiots build their bubbles to the sky so I can watch them pop from a distance. Have fun, morons. Let it all burn down. And don't you worry, Australia, your worm will turn soon enough.

You know when you feel tired from sitting around doing nothing for an extended period of time ? That's America right now.

Yes the decline is evident everywhere. Very sad. Where did we go wrong? How can we stop it? The political system is broken. And meanwhile the deterioration continues.

I know I'm happy in the lucky country of Australia.

You're extremely intelligent and open-minded Tim, but as a resident of Los Angeles ("born, raised, and still living") I agree with Dave's opinion of the issue.

To begin with Dave, you're illiterate (I better use smaller words for you) . You can't write a simple sentence in the "american language", which, by the way, is called English. You can't spell, "there" should have been; their. I am an American truck driver and many times my truck has been loaded or unloaded by people who were probably here without papers. Let me tell you, these folks work their asses off; faster, safer and smarter than many union shops. If an employer is given the choice of hiring people who often risk an ugly death to get to America for the chance to be underpaid for work so difficult most Americans refuse to consider it, or someone who likes to sit on their ass listening to the crap and lies spouted by the likes Rush and Fox Fairly Unbalanced News and wants a pat on the head just for showing up, who do you think he should hire? If we let them in legally, they would pay taxes. They could and would join the miliitary. Employers would have to pay them a fair wage. Then the argument that they take "our jobs" goes out the window. And just so ya know, back when Italians were called WOPs it was short for Without Papers. Once Jews were considered "Christ Killers". "No Irish need apply" was a common sign in many workplaces. Until at LEAST the 1970's there were many towns (not just in the South) where a black man better not be caught out after dark without a note from his employer. I'm white, in my 50's and was born, raised and still live in Alabama, if I can get past prejudice so can you.
