european safety standarts are not as strict as the US.Basically european cars are lighter.Lots of diesel cars (France as 65% of cars use diesel fuel) they use less fuel and diesel used to be 30 to 40% cheaper then regular unlead.

Most cars there are stick shift, less options or safety standarts.

front and rear bumpers also lighter. also smaller tire,and AC in a car is not a necessity.

Pretty much 'ditto' the above Acura/Honda comments. Lots of Acura RSX's on the roads in this area. Have two older Acuras that seem indestructible and nearly maintenance free.

we have a 2004 Acura TL with the 6 speed manual and tighter handling package and Bembo breaks. Excellent car and fun to drive for its tightness on the corners. Anyway had always hoped that Acura would produce a convertable or version of the TL but with the convertable; which my wife wants as the BMW 335i series. No Acura has stayed relatively conservative but at least brought back the manual TL and Honda has dc'ed the 2000. Sad day for those who value such sportier cars but pure and not overpowered. My first car upon my return from my two VN tours in 70 was a 67 Austin Healy which was such a joy to drive through the country side roads near my home although not the best built car. Am approaching my 63 birthday and having a car as the 2000 but with the quality of the Acura cars would have been a true gift to share the road with.

why are US cars market for same models and by same companies (almost) some 10 miles per gallon worse than europe... does anyone know??

How could you include the likes of the Volkswagen GLI and omit one of the finest cars for the money every made, the Acura RSX (especially the S sports coupe package with the 6 speed)? Mine has 116,000+ miles on it and gives the same performance it did when new. Practically no maintenance or wearout problems with this car (as with most Hondas/Acuras); just change the oil regularly, perform routine maintenance and this car will give you driving pleasure forever. I actually outraced some guy in a Honda 2000 through the North Carolina mountains one Saturday a few years ago (his idea, not mine). This car was one of Acura's better ideas and they don't make anything now that offers the same styling and performance. The TSX comes close, but it's still a sedan, not a sports coupe. I also have very fond memories of my 1992 Honda Civic Si hatchback. I put over 300,000 miles on that car with only regular maintenance and a $2500 engine replacement at about 220,000 miles. I wrecked the poor thing in a freak snowstorm in SC, otherwise it might still be running. As for the GLI.....try putting more than 100,000 miles on it or any other Volkswagen without replacing the engine, transmission, brakes, CV joints, vital suspension parts........you get the idea. How many 15 year old Volkswagens do you see on the road today vs the number of 15 year old Hondas and Acuras (and Toyotas, for that matter)? I rest my case.
