You Guys are all so funny! As if the conservatives know so much and Can do any better. I'm certainly not convinced that any political side has the answer to the Big Concerns of Americas economy. What I do know is that for yrs we have tried it the good old boy system which I might add is What REALLY Got us into the Mess whether you want to admit it or not! We must stop bickering and laying fault on each political side conservative or liberal-they both as well as the American people All contributed to the fall of our economy. Greed is the number one villain! We again must remember that Together We the People and I mean that in every since of the word(American People)black, white, catholic, jew, gentile, asian, indian,etc...must stand together are we Truly all loose and fail, if you can't understand this than no one will ever realize the true meaning of what it is live and be free...Peace to You All!!

If you really want to know who is behind the current crisis, watch "The Warning." It fingers the real culprits; Greenspan, Rubin, Summers, Bernanke, Geithner, et al. They masterminded the derivatives house of cards during the Clinton administration. It was the ultimate arrogance, almost as if to say, "The rules of economics don't apply to us." Well they do and here we are 15 years later and the Obama adminstration has hired some of these same nitwits to get us out of the very mess they got us into. Madness.

"We should probably just relax, confident that Washington politicians always rally to head off devastating problems before they explode."

I think the author was trying to insert a little "tongue-in-cheek" humor here. During these crazy economic times, we could use some brevity. When I read that statement, I was ROTF, LMAO! Can you say insert sarcasm ---------> (here)! Seriously folks, why the senseless worry? Cuz, the treasury will keep the printing presses going until complete and utter financial chaos ensues. Keep up the great work Congress! What a bunch of douche bags!

Let's do not forget who ran us into the Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae brick wall. No it was not George Bush (everyone's favorite villain!) but it was the eee-diots in Congress that ran that show. I am no huge Bush fan, but I am a fan of let's remember who really started this mess!

I have to agree with the poster who touts Ron Paul. Paul and his "End the Fed" concept is one of the smartest thoughts out there these days.

NO we do not need to relax - and let Washington continue to screw the whole thing up. They are primarily clueless politicians who just cave in to what they think will get them votes.

Start a garden everyone! You're going to be glad you did. And VOTE THE BUMS OUT! Time to re-take America with new politicians who are REAL conservatives - not RINO's and dems.

When all the capital was extracted from the world economy a few yrs ago it had to come from somewhere...us...our jobs...our pension funds....and finally our government...but this is a government ...of the people.(we voted)...by the people...(the ranks of federal, state and local govt workers is as large as ever)...but not for the people...its always been for the elite..the wealthy...landed gentry ...there are a few more of them recently ..but the large mass of middle class left with the middle class jobs that went overseas...now the masses have only menial jobs left to fill...if you don't have a highly sought after technical skill like Linux or .Net to help fuel the demand for web services you will find yourself competing with many immigrants and un"usefully-educated" college grads..personal services ie hair styling will always be with us unless we all gravitate to the Bruce Willis or #47 look....but there's only so many of those jobs needed ...if we were to stay home and cook and eat dinner together we'd put another 2 million fast-food workers out of work.....so what are we to do?....consider looking around your world (your street, barrio, hood, zona, whateva)....and look for someone...somewhere....that you can do something for ...even with what little you yourself have....there was a time when neighbors with just a few fish and loaves fed many thousands.....and..the very same thing can happen again today ...in your world....but you my friend ...have to be the catalyst...it really is up to you.....the magic ingredient back then was a man sent with supernatural power to do good...came and touched others with his goodness....you too...can be good...to your family..friends and ...neighbors...those in your world....just open your eyes and see them ..they are all around...and like those hungry for the fish and loaves....they are hungry for your kindness...do it secretly....expecting nothing in return...and watch the few small loaves ...feed many thousands....I believe all pain, misery and worry about what will happen to me next...is here to wake us up to realize...our eyes shouldn't be on us ....we don't need to worry....this powerful man long ago said ...consider the birds of the air... they don't work ...but they are fed...given everything they need to live each day ....providing beauty and song for the world around them...aren't you much more important than they?..you ARE!..(trust me...you really are) ....now look around your world..and live with that supernatural power that helps you be concerned with one...even just one other soul....that needs you and your act of kindness..and then...these times won't seem so bad...(try it today and then tomorrow and the next day...and your world will be better ...that's why you are here you know...when you figure that out....how the world really is supposed to work ...and see it in action...in your own life..you will finally see that you CAN live in peace with your world...and...it will be at peace with you!

Capitalism is falling, and there is really nothing we can, or should do to stop it. The reason it is failing so dramatically isn't at first evident to the average person till you look at some facts. One has to ask them self's, what does it take to drive a Capitalist society. The simple answer is that it takes people buying good, and though goods being produced by a company of some kind that employees people to produce there goods. Hears the problem though that I see. We say people need to save more, then these kind of things wouldn't happen, but that flies in the face of people spending on goods to keep others employed. There is a conundrum hear that can't be overlooked. Then there is the fact that like clock work, a capitalist economy will crash about every ten years. don't believe me, this economic crash isn't the first, and certainly won't be the last if we continue on the way we are going. There was the dot com bubble in 2001 that crashed, before that the savings and loan crisis of 1991, and then ten years before that there was another recession in 1982 the data is all right hear to support my conclusions, https://www.americanfunds.com/resources/basics/risk-and-volatility/recessions-perspective.htm the fact of the matter is that Capitalism is a very delicate and fragile balance that we endure. One could compare it to a great party taking place under a giant sword of Damocles. So what do we do? Well there are alternatives to the system that we have now that don't include Socialism or Communism that experience the same kind of problems that Capitalism do. The one that comes to my mind is the system of Participatory Economics. An ingeniously simple system where the people decide what is needed, and that is what is produced. Work is evenly distributed amongst all thus ending unemployment, and quite possibly poverty. All members of a society using this model vote on what needs to be produced, what roads need repair, etc. etc. Because work is seen as a more as a necessity than something to build wealth, there would be no economic collapse every ten years either. if you want to know more go to this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ar6QN7jcNM

Vlad of NE, I took that as either a tongue-in-cheek comment -- a dark one -- or outright sarcasm. Surely no publication would openly condemn an entire class of people like that. Well, "Masters of the Universe" and their cohorts are exceptions, I suppose. I don't know that I'm right in my interpretation of that passage, but I sure do hope I am, though I'm certainly not rich.

slashing welfare and social safety net programs won't fix the $55T debt we currently hold. (Yes, $55T, which includes the unfunded liabilities of entitlements that no one bothers to care about). Military spending is 21% of the budget, Social Security is another 20% and Medicare is another 20%. Interest on the debt is around 10%. Welfare/safety net is around 11% The remaining 20% goes to projects/programs we actually use...roads, education, etc. We need to slash the 70% entitlement payments we may drastically, which would be political suicide but life sustaining for the country. Sorry everyone, social security, medicare and medicaid have to be cut. We HAVE to cut the military budget drastically. Draconian measures are necessary to save the ship....right now, we're sinking the ship to save the crew.
